Software Developer / Programmer ORFEUS vacancy

ORFEUS, the European organization for coordinating and promoting broadband seismology in Europe, is looking for an excellent, independent software developer / programmer. He/she will be working mainly within the EC-project NERIES which has started in 2006. The position is temporary for the duration of three years.

The candidate will cooperate in the following activities:

  • Developing, implementing and maintaining data service applications and data management at
the ORFEUS Data Center,
  • Contributing in improvements and maintenance of the Virtual European Broadband Seismic Network (VEBSN)
  • Contributing to the development of web application for the ORFEUS/NERIES related projects

Qualifications:
BS/MS in Computer Science and/or proved programming experience in OO development (e.g. Java, C++). Ability in Shell/Perl scripting languages and experience in SQL/RDBMS. MySQL will be a plus. Good knowledge of web technologies (J2EE, HTTP, HTML, Javascript) knowledge of Unix/Linux is recommended.

Excellent communication and cooperation skills together with a good knowledge of the English language are basic requirements. Affinity and interest in earthquake research is a pro.

You will be part of a dynamic, small group of enthusiastic colleagues, seismologists, software and web applications developers. This group cooperates with many international partners; therefore the work will require international travels on a regular basis. We encourage and offer excellent opportunities to develop own initiatives and follow relevant additional training.
